Brit Awards 2010: Nominees

It's the annual Brit Awards tonight, not an event I usually look forward to but for some reason, this year I am. Perhaps it's something to do with the fact that I've loved a lot of music in the past year, there's been some good tunes that's for sure or maybe because it's hosted by the lovely Peter Kay. The Brit Awards is normally good entertainment, there's usually at least one pissed up nutcase trying to make a name for themselves by acting a tit. I will of course tomorrow be featuring the fashion delights (and undoubtedly horrors) of the night but first I thought I'd look at the nominees and who I would like to win each award.

British Female Solo Artist
Bat for Lashes
Florence and the Machine

Leona Lewis

Lily Allen

Pixie Lott

Lily Allen gets my vote. "It's Not Me It's You" is a great album and one of my favourites of last year.

British Male Solo Artist
Calvin Harris

Dizzee Rascal

Mika

Paulo Nutini

Robbie Williams

Hmmm, this is a tough one. Robbie Williams new album was very good and I'm not really keen on any of the others (Paulo Nutini is annoying as hell) so he can have my vote!

British Breakthrough Act
Florence and the Machine

Friendly Fires

JLS

La Roux

Pixie Lott

I like La Roux, she's quirky and different (and frankly a bit scary) but I like the music and more importantly, so does my 4 year old.

British Group
Doves

Friendly Fires

JLS

Kasabian

Muse

Right, this is not very credible but I am going to vote for JLS. I think they've done really well seeing as they were X Factor rejects, girls love them and they've filled a gap in the boy band market.

Mastercard British Album
Dizzee Rascal - Tongue n'Cheek

Florence and the Machine - Lungs

Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

Lily Allen - It's Not Me It's You

Paulo Nutini - Sunny Side Up

See previous reference to Lily Allen. Out of that bunch it's got to be her album.

British Single
Alesha Dixon - Breathe Slow

Alexandra Burke Ft Flo Rida - Bad Boys
Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love

Joe McElderry - The Climb

JLS - Beat Again

La Roux - In For The Kill

Lily Allen - The Fear

Pixie Lott - Mama Do

Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart

Tinchy Stryder Ft N-Dubz - Number 1

My daughter would really struggle picking in this category - Alexandra Burke? JLS? La Roux? Cheryl Cole? Damn, I'm having a hard time. I'm going for....wait for it.....JLS! So, I don't love it but it was so catchy and played incessantly. So yes, JLS for best British Single! (and I'd like to point out that nobody in this household - NOBODY - has had any lusty feelings for any member of JLS).

Critics Choice
Ellie Goulding

Delphic

Marina and the Diamonds

Erm, I'd like to pretend I was all knowledgeable about music here but I'm not and the only one I really know anything about is Marina and the Diamonds so based on that nugget, that's my vote.

BRITs Album of 30 Years
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Dido - No Angel

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

Duffy - Rockferry

Keane - Hopes & Fears

Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

Phil Collins - No Jacket Required

Sade - Diamond Life

The Verve - Urban Hymns

Travis - The Man Who

After getting over the initial shock that Steps - Gold was not listed as one of the best albums of the past 30 years I got a little excited about seeing Phil Collins on the list. Phil, dear Phil. We have a little tribute to Phil each week in the office. Phil to win!!! (If only to stop me having to look at Chris Martin's miserable face).

The BRITS Hits 30
Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive/How Deep is Your Love
Bros - I Owe You Nothing

Coldplay - Clocks

Eurythmics & Stevie Wonder - Angel

Girls Aloud - The Promise

Kanye West - Gold Digger

Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out of my Head

Michael Jackson - Earth Song

Paul McCartney - Live and Let Die
Pet Shop Boys - Go West

Robbie Williams & Tom Jones - The Full Monty Medley

Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama

Spice Girls - Wannabe/Who Do You Think You Are
Take That - Beatles Medley

The Who - Who Are You

This award follows the programme of the same name I believe, that was shown in January. Too many good choices here if you exclude Coldplay however the Take That Beatles Medley is one of my favourite performances they've ever done (seen it live twice now, once in 1994 and then again in 2006) so I would love them to win that award.

International Female Solo Artist
Lady Gaga
Ladyhawke

Norah Jones

Rihanna

Shakira

Without a doubt, Lady Gaga. Once upon a time Rihanna would have got my vote but it's got to be Gaga. Shakira sounds like a muppet.

International Male Solo Artist
Bruce Springsteen

Eminem

Jay-Z

Michael Buble

Seasick Steve

Errrr, no contest! Michael Buble obviously. (Who the buggery is Seasick Steve?!)

International Album
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

Black Eyed Peas - The End

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream

Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3

Lady Gaga - The Fame

Hands down, Lady Gaga - best album of 2009. (Black Eyed Peas come in a close second)

International Breakthrough Act
Animal Collective
Daniel Merriweather

Empire of the Sun

Lady Gaga

Taylor Swift

And Lady Gaga sweeps the board!

Outstanding Contribution Award
Robbie Williams

I'm just not sure about this. Sure he's had a long career, lots of hits etc and I do like him a lot but, meh, can't help there must be someone more deserving and if he hadn't have suddenly come back into favour this year, would he have got this award?

So, there it is - not really my predictions as such, more who I'd like to see win. We'll see how close I am tomorrow!

love & kisses
Mrs M x
