Three tasty baking recipes!

As might be obvious from this here blog, I do love me a spot of baking. Over the years I have built up quite a bank of tried and tested recipes - some are really quite inventive and different but generally the ones that are best loved and most well received by my family are the good old classics. You know, the types that your grandma and mother might well knock up. Well your grandma and mother might, I'm not sure that my nan (God rest her soul) or my mother for that fact would have known which way up to hold a wooden spoon. Safe to say that baking is not really a family trait or passion, it's a love that I've developed up all on my own.

Today I would like to share with you three extremely tasty and classic bakes that you might like to try out for yourself.

1. Lemon Drizzle Cake

A lemon drizzle cake would possibly make it into my top three cakes EVER. Like in the entire world of cakes. I'm not sure who can resist a nice big wedge of sharp and citrussy lemon drizzle but it ain't me. Faced with an array of cakes, I'm pretty sure I'd plump for the lemon drizzle every time. The thicker and crustier the lemon drizzle the better! This cake is pretty much perfection with an afternoon cuppa!

It's no secret how much I love a loaf cake, I'm sure I've bleated on and on about them in the past. I've made a lot of loaf cakes in my time, I just love the simplicity of them and how easily they slice when you fancy a little nibble. I always like a good topping on my loaf cakes to make them a bit more interesting on the tongue and this delicious date and walnut loaf has scattered walnuts on top after baking which gives a wonderfully crunchy texture. Yum!

Sticky + ginger. Two words that are perfectly matched in my mind. Ever since my dad used to give me some Jamaica ginger cake as a child I've had a wild love affair with ginger cakes and this one with it's ginger glace icing is so incredibly tempting. A lovely, dark sticky and moist ginger cake - ooh I can almost smell it's wonderful aroma now. Too bad I'm on a diet!

There are lots more Flora recipes on their website, not just delicious cakes and bakes, but lots of other delicious and healthy eating ideas.

Would any of these cakes make it into your Top 3?

  2. My step daughter, who is 7 and a half (!), has also started sleep walking and I'd not considered this - despite having a toddler in the house we don't have any stairgates as we have a LOT of doors. Now you've got me thinking about the top of the stairs, which as you say, tends to be where sleep walkers can sometimes be found lingering…! Something to think about! xx

That ginger cake looks scrummy! I haven't made ginger cake in ages. Lemon Drizzle is one of my all time favourites too.
