I may not have any babies anymore (*sniff* lets not talk about that point too much, it's a sensitive subject...) but I do still have the requirement to keen my children safe at night because I have one that tends to wander...yes I have a sleepwalker.
At the age of 6 (and a half - the half is VERY important, or so I am told) I thought that the days of baby gates were far behind us but my little wanderer can often be found lingering at the top of our very steep flight of stairs which makes me feel very uncomfortable.
When it comes to child or baby-proofing the house, I will admit, I've always been slightly lackadaisical. Convinced that I was more than able to pre-empt any accident or disaster that was waiting to happen but you know, as much as we all like to think we're extremely capable supermums, sometimes your eye does get taken off the ball and accidents do happen so I am starting to think that it really is better to be safe than sorry.
The baby gates have been long gone in our house but I have been wondering recently whether I should be reinstating the stair gates for the safety of my intrepid wanderer. One wobbly step onto those stairs...well it makes my blood run cold. When we had babies in the house we used to have a gate at the bottom of the stairs to stop them going up, now we want to stop them going down!
I'd love to know how you keep sleepwalkers safe. Have you considered re-installing a stair gate for a child?
