Review: Honest Box from Our Honest Foods

Recently I was asked if I would like to try an Honest Box. As I’m always interested in trying out new foodie services I thought why not, I’d give it a whirl!

I'd not heard of Honest Boxes before so chances are you might not have either. Honest Boxes are a box (duh) – or Snackorium as Our Honest Foods like to call them – of snack products. The aim is to help promote independent British products and put them on the map.

Our Honest Foods is a young company founded in 2013 by three friends - their ambition being to rescue people from mundane and average snacks and introduce them to something a little bit more exciting.  Their name came from their humble beginnings of delivering snacks to offices in Bath in wooden honesty boxes made from recycled apple crates. They've now moved into delivering the snacks to peoples homes and have also set up an online shop.

My Snackorium arrived all very neatly packaged and was accompanied by a note showing me whereabouts my the products included originated from.  In the box I had the following items;
  • Clearly Scrumptious Simply Cranberries
  • Hoots Cheese & Onion Multigrain Snack
  • Cocoa Loco Organic Dark Chocolate Buttons
  • Organic Rooibos Caffeine Free Infusion Tea
  • Wild Trail Apple & Raspberry Yoghurt Popcorn Bar
  • The Wonky Kitchen Raspberry & White Chocolate Fudge
  • Tyrells Alternatives Habas Fritas

I liked that the box introduced me to new brands like Hoots along with some old favourites like Tyrells - though I'd never actually tried that product before. The mix of products was good with some interesting healthier snack choices along with a couple of "treat" products. Other boxes I've tried have been purely healthy and a little too healthy for my liking.

The boxes are £9.99 per month which seems a little bit on the pricey side, however I'm sure if you added up the individual RRP of each product it would seem more reasonable.

Would I buy an Honest Box? I do like the randomness and novelty of not knowing quite what snacks you're going to get but I'm far more likely to buy the boxes on a one-off basis rather than through a monthly subscription. You can do either through their website but currently the price is the same. I think perhaps offering a slightly lower rate for subscribers would probably entice more people in.

Check out the Our Honest Foods for more details on the Honest Box and how to order.
