Yes, it appear it's that time of year again, the one where we make all those resolutions we keep for about three days before forgetting about them again, and of course I'm never any different. Naturally I have a list as long as my arm of things I want to achieve in 2014 - and that's what this is about for me, not flaky "New Year's Resolutions" but more a "Things to do in 2014".
Obviously "LOSE WEIGHT" is there, it always is. The most over-used resolution of all time. I successfully lost 17lbs last year but alas because I'm such a big lazy snorty pig I have put them all back on again and then some WAHHHHHHHHHHHH. So yes, in 2014 I will be dieting again - mainly because I am going to NYC and Florida this year and under no circumstances am I going there fat. Uh-uh. Not happening. So there. I use the term "dieting" loosely because I am totally through with restricting myself massively on calories. Instead I'm going for the "move more, eat less and monitor it on My Fitness Pal" technique. Seems a bit more sustainable? Who knows, time will tell.
Next is stop wasting money. This is an important one. I aim to stop buying things I don't need, live more frugally, cut food waste and grocery expenditure. I've been quite frivolous over the years and it's time to put an end to it. I'm going to really try and think before I make a purchase. Do I really need it? Is it something I can wait for a birthday or Christmas present instead? We're not struggling at the moment but that doesn't mean that one day we won't be, so it's time to be a bit more sensible and save those pennies for a rainy day.
Put more effort into work. Not just my paying day job (although that seriously needs some effort) but also into my own freelance endeavours. I'd like to be able to earn a second income and 2014 I am going to try to make this a reality in one way or another. I made moves to do this at the end of 2013 but 2014 is when I'll give it a hard shove. You can but try.
And finally, I want to be more motivated in ALL areas of my life. Get my house cleaner and tidier, organise myself better, do all the things I intend to - generally stop being so lazy and procrastinating all the time. It makes me feel so miserable and lethargic and it's ridiculous when it's something I am in control of.
There. That's it for me. In theory that's all perfectly achievable isn't it? In reality? We'll see!
Have you set any resolutions? If you've written a blog post about this subject, leave a note in the comments and I'll stop by and read it (when I am procrastinating...)
Happy new year!
I also have weightloss and being more money-savvy as a top priority for 2014. But my main goal for 2014 is a more personal one x

I find that weight loss and stopping wasting money are quite closely linked - I think to myself "do I actually need to eat this, or am I wasting the money it cost to buy it by eating it out of boredom?". I think you're right about ditching the restrictive diets; they obviously aren't working for you if you lost and gained again - been there, got the multiple-sized t-shirts! You need something that you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life without feeling deprived. Good luck!
