I became the proud owner of yet another cookery book yesterday, this time the new book by everyone's favourite Queen of Food Porn, Nigella Lawson. Entitled "Kitchen - Recipes from the Heart of the Home" this book accompanies the new 13-part TV programme of the same name that will commence this autumn.
I'm just sitting down with it now for a good flick through whilst girly is at school and boy is having a nap and my first impressions are good, but then Nigella's books are always well-presented and full of tempting recipes. It is a large book and Nigella has written a long introduction to the book (I love that in a cookbook) and also a great list called "Kitchen Caboodle" which is a list of essential kitchen kit. Another good section of the book is her "Kitchen Confidential" pages where she tells us about her shortcuts and handy tips - you can never have too many of those!
My favourite thing to do when I get a new book is to list what recipes I am going to try. Of course it's never an exhaustive list, they'll be other ones I give a whirl. So here is my current list, detailed section by section.
Part I Kitchen Quandaries
What's for tea? Hurry up, I'm hungry!, Easy does it, Cook it better, My sweet solution, Off the cuff

I love that one of my favourite shows Glee inspired Nigella to make her grasshopper pie and I also love her for making a chocolate key lime pie - like Nigella I am also a fan of those chocolate lime sweets you get.
I love summer but I am getting excited now Autumn is setting in as I love big, hearty, warming dinners of which there are quite a few in this book. Time to start planning some winter dinners!
If you've bought this book, stop by and tell me what you are looking forward to trying.

I bought it on Saturday and have flicked through it a couple of times and love it. Not made a list of what I want to try but the chicken with chorizo and Frangelico tiramisu stood out. Just having a proper read of it now with little sticky notes to mark pages. Can't wait for the series in October.
ReplyDeleteLooks good, might ask for it for my birthday :-)
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing good things about this book. I had promised myself that I would wait and put it on my Christmas list but I don't think I'll be able to hold off that long!
ReplyDeleteHelen, there is no way you can wait until Christmas for this book! Especially once the TV programme starts. Treat yourself, £13 in most places and on Amazon.
ReplyDeleteI've got it too and think it's fab. I heart Nigella.
ReplyDeleteI've bought it, I love it, I stroke it and flick through it and I wish to devour everything!
ReplyDeleteI love this book and in fact all my Nigella books (My DH is having to put up yet another shelf in the kitchen to accomodate my hoard!) I have flicked and read through the recipes and have already made the "Blondies" which I may add were very gooey if a little undercooked in my case but delicious and I made the Barbequed Beef Mince. I have a family favourite "Sloppy Joes" recipe but that involves cooking the mince in ketchup so I figured passata/tinned tomatoes would be better for us. It was delicious and I think will be now replace my other treasured piece.
ReplyDeleteI love Nigella but have just one bone to pick...she states that there are no natural blondes over 25 or outside of Scandinavia...well there is at least one! ME!
Thank you for your site, I came across it looking for chutney recipes as I have a glut of plums on the turn.
