Top tips for a practical and stylish nursery

Becoming parents for the first time is nothing short of terrifying, but with careful planning and good organisation, you can relieve some of the stress associated with parenting and focus on the good bits!

One way to prepare for your new arrival is to create the perfect nursery in advance. If you know whether you will be welcoming a little boy or girl into the world, you are safe to go out and buy gender-specific paints in bulk. If you’re keeping the sex of the baby a surprise, or you’re not too fussed on blues and pinks, opt for a gender-neutral nursery with bright whites, soft greys and pale blues, creating a soothing canvas for adding personalised accessories later down the line.

Either way, a number of furnishings are staples to any nursery. However, essential doesn’t have to mean plain. Style and functionality can and should go hand-in-hand when it comes to finding the perfect nursery furniture.

Storage

All those books and toys need to go somewhere, so keep the nursery looking spic and span with some bright storage solutions. Half door storage cubes come in an array of different colours and have both cupboards and alcoves, perfect for storing all manner of nursery gear. Colourful storage boxes are decorated with stripes, polka dots, bold colours and much more, making storage both fun and practical.

Beds

Nurseries for newborns should be equipped with a cot or a crib and a suitable mattress – hypoallergenic is best to give your baby the best night’s sleep possible. You can also buy cot top changers to make easy work of changing all those nappies. Team with kids character nappy stackers for the ultimate combination!

As your children grow and their unique personality develops by the day, you may wish to invest in childrens beds that are tailored to their taste. From Disney character beds to bunk beds, from four poster frames to all-in-one beds that can also be used for sitting and lounging; there is plenty of choice available. A headboard can add character and interest to a room and make your child’s room their own.

Accessories

Last but not least, kids are bright, bubbly and full of beans, so make sure the nursery reflects this by accessorising with fun and personalised decorations. This can include funky lighting (such as fairy-lights), stickers, wall art and framed photos.
