Product Review: Abba You Can Dance

Yes, I am back with another Wii game review. Are you noticing a pattern to my reviews yet? They all seem to contain some sort of dancing or singing. You'd think I was good at them in that case wouldn't you? But as my performance on Abba You Can Dance shows, nope. I am not.

Ubisoft sent me a copy of their new game Abba You Can Dance to review and I was over the moon as I'd considered buying this recently. I'm a lifelong Abba fan and seemed to have passed than on to my children who love nothing more than settling down with the DVD of Mamma Mia.  This game is perfect for Mamma Mia fans - it will completely appeal to you if you loved all the singing and dancing in the film as all the favourites are included in this game.

If you are familiar with the Just Dance games then you'll know what to expect from the Abba version. (If you're not familiar, WHY NOT?! You can find out more about them on my previous posts here and here).  There are 26 hit Abba songs to choose from, most you'll be familiar with, a couple are lesser known tracks.  You can play for fun or challenge your friends and up to 4 people can play at once - if you have the room to throw yourself around that is!

Snuck in there, surely for the Mamma Mia fans is the mini-musical mode.  Perform a story through the music of Abba.  Take a look at this.

Something I love about this game is that one of the features means that you can sing along. Oh yes. If you have a Wii compatible microphone, as I surely do, the lyrics are on screen and you can make use of the karaoke function. This makes the game perfect.

One negative I have found, and perhaps unfairly as I am comparing this game to the Just Dance series is there is no rating of difficulty before you choose your track. Not a big downside by any stretch of the imagination but I do like to let myself know what I am getting into and whilst trialing the game did have to perform some pretty hardcore routines that I was a little unprepared for. I found The Winner Takes It All really difficult as it was a ballet style routine, and graceful I am not!

So far my favourite, and best performed routine I must add, is Honey Honey. Now I shall try to obsessively beat my score each and every time I put the game on.

The dance routines were varied and it had good graphics that matched the style of the song. They were easy to follow and repetitive enough for you to catch on quickly. I love this game and I think it's extremely good value.

A must-have for Abba and Mamma Mia fans!

love & kisses
