Glee!

Oh Glee how I love thee. I just knew, from the moment I saw the advert on E4, I knew that I would love Glee and I’m so happy to find something on TV to look forward to again. How to describe Glee? Hmm, well it’s kind of like High School Musical only better and with a bit of a Scrubs type feel to it. It does in fact have a bit of a High School Musical theme going on with Finn, one of the major characters being a football player who secretly enjoys singing. I enjoyed it immensely, Mr M didn’t really watch he was having far more doing his tax return – he didn’t sound particularly enthused by the programme. I think Glee is going to be a bit Marmite to be honest. Some people are going to love it; some people are going to think it’s the worst thing they’ve ever seen.

I have to admit, I didn’t even know what a Glee Club was until last night, I am pretty sure us Brits don’t really have anything like it (although it did in fact originate in London) but it turns out it’s a bit of a group for singing and dancing exploits, not really a choir and something I totally would have wanted to be in at school. Yes, not cool, but inside me somewhere there is a performer just waiting to bust out.

The music and the dancing, oh the singing. Wonderful. The rivals doing “Rehab” was inspired (and I was secretly coveting their dresses!) and “Push It” was so much fun. The music used throughout really makes the show, although the lip syncing does grate a little after a while.

I love the characters, I really warmed to Rachel although I’m not sure whether I am meant to or not, the Cheerleading coach reminds me of many PE teachers I met during my school years, Terri needs a real good slap and sweet OCD Emma. She’s just so lovely I could eat her up (although she does seem to remind me of a character from the Professor Layton games).

But the real star for me, Mr Schuester. Swoon. My teachers were certainly not like him. Watching him doing his “Gold Digger” routine left me feeling a little weak in the knees and if I ever really needed a reason to tune in again next week, he would be it. Yum. I’m looking forward to next week already!

Perhaps this programme will do wonders for Glee clubs all over America - after all, it's made me want to join the Glee Club *waves jazz hands*

love & kisses

  1. The lip synching is not great but at least you know it's really them singing - the production value just isn't high enough for it to be seemles (no doubt because it's a TV show and not a movie). Will is perfectly delectable (he can dig my gold any day, if you know what I mean) and I really love the sharp, snarky writing. Sue Sylvester is just a revelation to me - so harsh and yet hilarious. Jane Lynch delivers every line perfectly.
