Last month I was offered the chance to review a small domestic appliance from Argos. My house is pretty overrun with domestic appliances (it's a problem I have, lets gloss over it...) but I knew one thing I needed - a decent iron. The iron I have been using up until now was about 10 years old. It was also a Bosch, nothing wrong with it per se, it's treated me well over that period but it was lacking in some oomph so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to upgrade myself.
I did some careful research on the Argos website for a steam generator iron - I always find other peoples reviews and ratings incredibly helpful when choosing - and decided to go for another Bosch product. I'm a Bosch fan, what can I say, they never seem to let me down.
The first thing that struck me about my lovely new iron was the weight of it. Man, that thing could slay a giant! It was really weighty but not so much it was a struggle, more that I could tell it was going to do a good job from the off - it felt like a quality item.
The iron has a powerful 3100 watts and heats up in just two minutes. It has an abundance of handy features like a good sized (400ml) water tank, it's anti-scale, anti-drip and self-cleaning, has variable and vertical steam and my favourite thing about this iron? It has an auto shut-off. AN AUTO SHUT-OFF. For those who are slightly anal about appliances being left on this is just the best feature on an iron. I can't tell you how many times I have had to go back in the house to check that the iron is off or calling my mother-in-law for her to check for me. I have this paranoia that an iron left-on will burn my house down to the ground and so have to check it incessantly. It's my thing. Let it go. It doesn't stop me checking that it's turned off but it does give me comfort that if I do go out of the house and leave it on, it will switch off and cool down.
Nice features aside, how does it iron? Very well! The steam output is very good and it smooths out the most stubborn of creases with little effort. It's so efficient and if you use it on the max steam setting it powers through your ironing. I swear it takes less time than normal. This iron is my new best friend. True fact.
The Bosch TDS1220GB Sensorsteam Power Steam Generator Iron is available from Argos with an RRP of £99.99.
