I've been prompted to write this post after reading Curtains for the Window's blog post which is a monthly linky about what they are reading.
You may or may not remember that I wrote this post back in January about my reading pile? Well I am ashamed to say after a relatively good start which saw me flying through the first three of the Flowers in the Attic series (book 3 bored me and I gave up, although I did enjoy 1 and 2) I slowed right down to a bit of a halt. I managed to read Katie Piper's Beautiful recently - which is an awe-inspiring book, what an amazing girl and I also started "One Day" by David Nicholls. It's rare that I ever give up on a book but honestly, four chapters in and I was still bored rigid so I disposed of it. I thought it was as dull as dishwater. It's a controversial view, most people love it but clearly it wasn't for me.
My reading pile has in fact grown larger, I know, it's a bit of a problem so I hereby vow to attack it by commiting to read three books this month and for April these will be as follows.
The Secret History which has been on my list for like forever!
The Lady in the Tower - The Fall of Anne Boleyn. If you know me, you know I have a Tudors obession.
and the one I am most excited about *cough* I pre-ordered this today after a chat about it on Twitter. Sweet Valley Confidential. Yes! What happened 10 years after the last Sweet Valley High books. I know this is sad but I don't care!
So come tell me, what are you reading in April? and do pop over to Curtains for the Window and leave a comment or link up to your own blog post on the linky.
love & kisses
The Secret History is a book that's been on my "to read" list for a long time too..really ought to get round to it! As for the Sweet Valley High one, I'm not sure whether to cringe or cheer...a friend at school used to pass them on to me when we were teenagers and I always felt slightly wrong reading them but devoured them at a rate of knots! Let me know what the new one is like? :) x
ReplyDeleteSweet Valley High!! I didn't know there was a 10 years on one, I'll have to investigate. I read The Secret History a while ago and it's excellent. It took me a while to get round to reading it as well but it is worth it. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI've got the Lady in the Tower on my April list too! I'm slap bang in the middle of The Historian at the moment, have you read it? Really enjoying it so far...
ReplyDeleteAlmost certainly going to pre-order the Sweet Valley book as well... you've got to have your guilty pleasures, right?!

SVH! *cue 'Memories'*
ReplyDeleteMy list is jam-packed, too; but here's what I'm tackling: 'Millie's Fling' (Jill Mansell), 'The White Blackbird' (Honor Moore), 'Kings Cross' (Tim Keller), and 'Bossypants' (Tina Fey).
And if I have some spare moments, will have a flick through 'Undecorate' (Christiane Lemieux) and 'A Perfectly Kept House is a Sign of a Misspent Life' (Mary Randolf Carter).

I've not heard of any of these; how great to see you reading list. I think I'd love the Lady in the Tower. I'm a big fan of marion zimmer bradley and always have a couple of her books by my bedside. But I love Katie Fforde too for real 'switch off' books :D
ReplyDeleteMy pa likes histi=orical literature, will it be nice to present him that historical one with grey cover?
