I was asked by Beyond the Bean (UK distributers) if I'd like to sample some cookies from the Byron Bay Cookie Company. Err, hello? Of course I blummin' would!
I have to admit to having never heard of the Byron Bay Cookie Company. I could possibly have been living under a rock, who knows, but I'd just never seen them before. Since receiving the samples I've now seen them in a few places (the cafe in House of Fraser in Birmingham being one of them) which is just weird, but perhaps they were always there and I never paid much attention.
A few days later a box of treats arrived and Mr M was naturally interested and told me that you got cookies everywhere in Byron Bay when he was there. (Yeah, yeah, so you went to Australia in '94 and I didn't - stop going on about it!).
In the box was a great selection of flavours to try that included;
- Triple Chocolate Fudge
- White Chocolate and Macadamia Nut
- Sticky Date and Ginger
- Lemon and Macadamia Nut Shortbread
- Milk Chocolate Chunk
- Fig and Pecan
- Gluten Free Dotty Cookie
My first impression of the cookies was that they are not cookies as I know them. I was half-expecting them to be the thin, chewy American style cookies but there were nothing like that. They are chunky, somewhat crumbly (especially the Dotty one) and very tasty. The crumbliness means they are not hard but they're not exactly soft either - there's no squigdiness. The Byron Bay cookies are substantial - one is certainly enough with your afternoon cup of tea as you can see!
My personal favourite was the Sticky Date and Ginger, this one was quite moist and was yum, I could definitely eat a lot of those whilst Mr M is more of a traditionalist and he liked the Milk Chocolate Chunk. The children didn't have an awful lot to say but they did seem to enjoy the Dotty cookie.
I have to say them seem a bit of an extravagant purchase for everyday munching but I would consider buying them as a treat or I think they'd be great if you were making a little gift hamper for someone and I would certainly pick one up in a cafe if I was looking for something to go with my cup of tea. All in all I give them a thumbs up!

I absolutely lurve your blog! :) You have to contend with the same problems I do, where cooking for your fella is concerned, plus we both cook for children (albeit that mine's a boy and is 11yrs old) - and you appear to like all the same things I do, to eat! LOL We should do a huge blogshare! *grin*
