What seems like an absolute age ago I was accepted to be a Toyologist for Toys R Us. This was a role I had undertaken before the this time the programme was being run slightly different. Instead of being sent a big pile of toys, items were to be sent on an individual basis. This should be a lot easier huh? Turns out it took me longer to get my review together for this one item than it did 30 items previously! So before I start with this review I have to send a big apologises to the Toys R Us team for being so utterly useless and tardy with this review. Real life, opposed to blog life, has completely consumed me the past few months.
The item that I was sent to review was the King's Castle from the Lego Castle range.
We were all super-excited about the arrival of this in the house, because we're all complete Lego geeks and we're very keen to get building the castle.
Let me start by saying this is no lightweight Lego kit, this is a BEAST of a Lego kit. It has almost 1,000 pieces and is really quite detailed with features like a catapult, drawbridge, towers, dungeon, King's Throne... This is a Lego set that can provide hours of play - and takes hours to build, but you know, that's half the fun!
The pieces come in lots of bags - DON'T OPEN THESE ALL AT ONCE! You need to follow the very clear and straightforward instructions and open them a bag at a time or else you are going to get into a right pickle. The age range for the castle is 7-12. My son is only 6 and therefore did need some help assembling it, it's quite tricky and fiddly in places but we both enjoy a project we can get our teeth into.
The castle is quite large, and good value for money compared to other Lego sets I've bought in the past. I mean, they've all been loved equally but some seem to be lots of £££ and very few pieces. This set is on the pricey side at almost £80 but there are a lot of components to it and you can fill a whole afternoon building it, let alone playing with it.
We actually started and finished on separate days as it was probably a bit too much for my 6 year old's attention span to cope with - I found that frustrating, I am a finisher - and it only occurred to me that I never took a picture of the whole thing completed before it got dismantled again!
and that's what it looks like finished.
Pretty awesome isn't it.
There are other sets available to complement play with this castle like the Dragon Mountain (which my son would LOVE, might be a birthday purchase) and the Forest Ambush.
The Lego Castle King's Castle is a fantastic piece of kit and we all give it a big thumbs up!
