Christmas. It turns out to be an expensive time of the year doesn't it? Not just all those presents that you have to buy, but all the lovely food and drinks, as well as all the glamourous sparkly outfits that are needed for the upcoming party season! Money clearly doesn't grow on trees though so I am, like everyone else I should imagine, always looking for ways that I can bring in a bit of extra cash to help pay for the overblown expenditure that is just waiting to happen! (I can't help it, I love Christmas).
One of the quickest and easiest ways I have found of finding myself some extra spending money is by having a good old clear out at home. You know, turfing out drawers and cupboards, checking what is languishing at the bottom of wardrobes... I'm a bit of a hoarder so things like read books, used video games, clothes bought in the sales with the tags still attached and old mobile phones and various bits of outdated technology seem to hang around the house forever. Most of us probably have a veritable goldmine of stuff that we no long have need or use for.
You know what they say though don't you, one man's junk is another man's treasure - and never has a truer word been spoken. There are many ways of turning your clutter into cash these days - car boot sales, online auction sites and if you've got old unwanted mobile phones you can send them to various companies who pay you a sum of money depending on the make and model.
Since I bought an e-reader I've had a purge of books to free up some space on the shelves and of course it also helps to fund my new found book-downloading habit. We've got rid of two mobile phones that were no longer any use to us and got over £40 for one of them which was a bit of a result and I've been selling old baby stuff through auctions online as well. Last week I got double what I'd paid for something which was incredible - and I did feel a bit guilty like I was ripping people off but in the end they still got a bargain. I'm really enjoying the feeling that I'm getting something back from things I've used or no longer need. Of course the sensible thing to do would be to save it but I'll be honest, I've been splurging all these gains on Christmas decorations. (Ssssh, don't tell my husband...we're running out of space to keep them!).
So if you could do with a bit of extra spondoolies for the festive season, the best place to start looking for it is around you at home! You never know what you might turn up that could fund your mince (or sherry *hic*) habit and in the process, you get a cleaner and tidier house for clearing out the junk. It's a win-win situation really!

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I've been busy making money for Christmas too and by decluttering have made about £200. I sold a steam cleaner, pair of boots, some shoes, a bag and some electrical stuff. It's amazing how it all adds up when you make the effort to list things and find out who wants your old things. Hope your Xmas fund grows nicely!
