Friday Foody Round Up #4

It's been a couple of months since the last Friday Foody Round Up so I thought it was time to share with you what I've been trying out recently.  (If you haven't seen this on my blog before, I get sent food to try and review sometimes and instead of a whole host of posts, I prefer to do one post combining them all...It's not always easy to fill a whole blog post about baked beans, as much as I'd like to.)

Burts Chips

I didn't really need to be sent packs of Burts Chips to try as I already know that I love these crisps. I can't resist a crisp and an artisan, hand-cooked crisp with a glass of red wine in the evening is about as good as it can get sometimes! I was sent three flavours to try - Mature Cheddar, Salt & Vinegar and Aberdeen Angus. I loved all of them but I think I have to say my favourite was the Mature Cheddar - I'm a sucker for a bit of cheese. Burts' fryers hand-fry these crisps to perfection to ensure the perfect taste and crunch, and get this, on the back of every pack it has the name of the fryer who made them! (Mine was made by Roddy...if you check out their website you can "meet" the fryers. They are available from all major supermarkets in 40g bags that have an RRP of 69p or if you're like me you'll require the slightly larger 150g bag that retails at around £1.89.

No-No Flatbreads

Slightly out of my comfort zone, were the No-No Flatbreads. The reason I say out of my comfort zone is because they are healthy and normally I avoid speciality foods like these because I think they're going to taste awful. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the mixed seed topped flatbreads I was sent and I found them a tasty snack, especially covered in hummus and Philadelphia - not at the same time I hasten to add! They flatbreads were crunchy and tasty and a great alternative to bread if you're on a bit of a health kick or slimming mission. The flatbreads are available in most major supermarkets and retail at around £1.99 for a pack of 15 flatbreads.

Bottlegreen Ginger and Lemongrass Cordial

I've tried Bottlegreen drinks before, I think it was last summer at a BBQ we had. I find cordials like these perfect in the summer when you don't want to drink alcohol but fancy something a loittle more sophisticated than a glass of orange squash. The cordial I was sent was a little different though, it's designed to be a winter warmer type of drink, a hot cordial. I've got to be honest, I'm not fond of hot, fruity drinks at all. If it's hot it's got to be either tea or chocolate, end of, so the warm variety of this drink did nothing for me at all however,  with ice-cold sparkling water, I loved it and I can definitely see me buying it again. Other winter warmer flavours include Cox's Apple and Plum Cordial, Spiced Berry Cordial, Lime Cordial and Elderflower Cordial - if you like hot fruit teas, then you'll love these!  The cordials are available from major supermarkets and retail at around £2.99.

Wonka

I'd like to pretend that I shared the Wonka candy I received with my children, but I TOTALLY didn't. How mean does that make me huh? I was sent a rather tasty selection that included Rainbow Nerds, Everlasting Gobstoppers, Rainbow Nerds Rope and Original Spree. The Wonka range is inspired by Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My personal favourite are the tiny, tangy Nerds that come in different flavours like Rainbow, Grape & Strawberry, Sour Lemon & Apple, Watermelon & Wild Cherry and Wild Berry & Peach but I also like the Everlasting Gobstoppers that have different layers and colours (although unfortunately they are not actually everlasting...). Wonka Candy is available nationwide, including department stores and specialist sweet shops.

That's it for this week folks! Have you tried any of these products? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
