Product Review: Dolphin Tale DVD (Warner Bros)

I was recently asked by Warner Bros if I'd like to review some films for them. One of the films I selected to review was Dolphin Tale. I picked this film as it sounded like a good family movie and also because my 4 year old boy is a sucker for a film with an animal in it.

Dolphin Tale is a film, based on a true story, about  a rather lovely dolphin named Winter and the people who help save her life.  Poor Winter gets trapped in a crab trap and severely damages her tail.  She gets rescued and so begins the long road ahead that sees Winter losing her tail and eventually due to a fabulous prosthetics doctor and a bunch of people determined to see her through, she makes a good recovery.

The film has some great actors in it - Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson and Morgan Freeman. Yes, ladies. I did say Harry Connick Jr.

But the most remarkable actor of all? Winter the dolphin - she actually plays herself! I have this thing, we'll call it an "affliction", where immediately after watching a film I have to look it up on IMDB and Wikipedia to find out things like how much money it made at the box office, where I've seen the actors before and where it was filmed. Yes, I'm a little bit of a movie geek. It was only when I was doing my "research" that I discovered that it was the real Winter in the film and it made me love it a little bit more.

As predicted, my son loved it. It was a great Sunday-afternoon-with-popcorn movie and he watched it intently and was able to talk at length about the storyline afterwards. It was an enjoyable movie with all the elements that make up a great family film - it warms your heart, makes you laugh and makes you cry.  If you like a film that covers a range of emotions, you'll like this!

My son also loved the fact that it was called "Dolphin Tale" and it's about the dolphins tale. He thought that was hilarious. 4 year olds, huh?

If you want to learn more about the film, you can watch the trailer below

Dolphin Tale is out on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, digital download and DVD on February 13th 2012.

Thanks to Warner Bros for sending me this lovely DVD!
