As mentioned in my post a couple of week ago, one of my aims (as always) is to make an effort to read more and as promised, here I am sharing what I aim to read this year. Some of these appeared on my list last year and I never got around to it, but I did read others in their place.
I sway between wanting to read fiction and then soaking up a whole host of non-fiction books, with a particular emphasis on history, in particular the Tudor and Victorian period. I've also started reading books that have a link to my family tree in order to personalise what I have learned about my ancestors a bit more.
In terms of fiction, whilst I enjoy a good rom-com/chick-lit I often like a book that has a bit of a mystery or twist in it but I find it hard to find ones I really like that aren't out and out crime. That's not really my bag at all. I also prefer books set in England - I don't ask much do I? I've made it my mission to re-read lots of classic books that were hastily sped through in my youth but which I do actually enjoy and there's a few other books I need to read before film versions come out.
So, we're in February now and I have so far read 0 books from my list. I don't know what I've been doing all month! I've not even finished the book I started at Christmas. Perhaps this list will spur me on. Here's what I shall be reading in 2012.

There you have it, quite an eclectic mix I think!
Have you read any of these? Do let me know your thoughts! I'd also be interested to hear if you've got a list of your own for 2012.
Haven't read any of them, but Home for Peculiar Children is on my list!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love Jane Austen. Emma is good - in fact, I have it in my DVD player at the moment. I have a beautiful collection of gilt edged pocket sized Jane Austen books which are my absolute favourite in the whole world.
ReplyDeleteOf all her books, Pride & Prejudice is my favourite, followed closely by Emma. Then it's a toss up between Sense & Sensibility and Mansfield Park then Persuasion and Northanger Abbey. I'm going to finish the cardi I'm knitting and then read Emma and P&P again. You have inspired me. Thanks!
I've read a couple of yours, and have the Louise Douglas waiting to be read in my bookcase. I keep a list on my blog of everything I've read since 2001 (I love reading, and I love lists!).
ReplyDeleteWould like to recommend The Poison Tree by Erin Kelly as a book you may like - not quite crime, but a bit darker than chick lit, great story and lots of twists and turns. Well worth a read.
Also (though they are American), try Diane Chamberlain's books - I discovered her last year, and absolutely love her writing. The Bay At Midnight and The Lost Daughter have been my two favourites so far.
Happy reading in 2012!
