Gardening: Progress Report No 3

I realised yesterday that it had been a long time since I last did an update on my growing attempts, in fact it was April. How time flies!

I am pleased to report that the garden is flourishing, my veggies seem to be coming on really well so I am rather pleased, especially as I subscribe to the bung-it-all-in-and-hope-for-the-best school of horticulture.

Let me walk you through....

In the first bed (from left to right) we have carrots, spring onions, autumn carrots, radish, garlic, spinach (that has really flourished!) and then a second planting of radish, spinach and garlic with some carnations planted along the side.

The second bed has two rows of peas. We've just put the pea sticks in and they've really come on in the past week. Some haven't grown so we've popped a few more in amongst them. At the edge of the bed are three sweetcorn plants and an outdoor cucumber.

Not very exciting, but this is my pumpkin patch. All six of my plants were strong so I put them in this patch of ground away from everything else as I've heard that the vines can kind of take on a life of their own!

A collection of tubs! Some of these are going to be moved around the front of the house when they get a bit bigger but for now they are stashed here for easy watering. In this picture we have two tubs and one bag of salad potatoes, rhubarb and the rest are flowers including carnations, phlox, hollyhock, dwarf hollyhock, Little Leo sunflowers, ornamental cabbages, candytuft, gypsophila and Californian poppies amongst others which have all been grown from seed. There are also two tubs of some summer bulbs including freesia.

Finally out on the windowsill in our very bright and hot utility room we have my chillis and coriander. You might remember I was worried the chillis wouldn't grow as they were taking so long to sprout but in the end I had oodles of seedlings and I picked the strongest. I now have thirteen chilli plants growing!

All in all I am rather pleased with how things are coming along and have even harvested some of my produce already. More on that coming up this week!

love & kisses

  1. Wow that looks fab! I can't get over the size of your spinach - and the spring onions - mine are like little blades of grass!

  2. I have had people asking me what variety of spinach it is because it's been so successful! (Renegade F1 for the record, not that I know much about it!)

  3. That all looks great, especially the spinach. We bought a couple of courgette plants yesterday for the balcony. I'd love a proper garden though.

  4. Oooh that looks fab - your spinach is doing so much better than mine (I'm on a 2nd attempt after a bunny raid took the last lot)

  5. Luckily we don't have bunnies around here, not that I've witnessed anyway. I think the dog ate them all. Literally.
