How does your garden grow?

Seeing as Spring as almost sprung (apparently - I'm still arguing that whilst I have to scrape the ice off my car in the mornings it ain't Spring) my thoughts have turned to the garden.

Now, I am no Charlie Dimmock (in many, many ways we are dissimilar - for starters, I like to wear a bra every now and again...) but I do like the idea of growing things. I say "idea" because in reality I am pretty lazy about it but not this year! Oh no! I am heading into the planting season with gusto and I have to say, with a fair amount of stupidity. I'm not one to do things by halves and am planning on a huge variety of plants in my flower-barren garden.

The garden itself is pretty full of greenery and non-descript shrubs which unfortunately we're not going to have time to dig up this year so I am going for the tubs and baskets angle this year, of which we have plenty lying around. Mr M will no doubt rig up some impressive water system for the baskets. I have no idea what is wrong with a plain old watering can?

So I thought I'd share my flower plans with you here, if you're interested. If you're not interested, I suggest you look away now.

I'll list the names of them from left-to-right, top-to-bottom.

Aster, Californian Poppy, Candytuft, Carnation, Chrysanthemum, Godetia

Freesia, Gypsophilia, Hollyhock, Hollyhock Majorette, Ranunculus, Sunflower

Leptosiphon, Phlox, Poppy, Little Leo Sunflowers

Do you think perhaps I am being a little too ambitious? Most of them are seeds to sow directly out but the Carnations and Hollyhocks are germinating in their trays as we speak. The Ranunculus and Freesia are bulbs which I might well pot this weekend.

Are you doing flowers this year? Is so, what are you planning on?

love & kisses

  2. I'm very jealous of your garden as I only have a balcony. I'd love to grow the ranunculi and poppies but have just enough room for a trough of herbs and maybe a tomato plant once it warms up. I agree that it's definitely not spring when you have to de-ice your car!

  3. I'm lucky that now we have moved out into the country I have more space, although I had decent sized garden at the old house. I was just more uninspired there.

Sorry for late comment, I'm behind with my reader!
