What's Occurin'

Oh woe is me. I cried buckets last night at the last episode of Gavin and Stacey. It was partly the emotional scenes, partly the thought that there is no more and to be fair, partly the red wine but I blubbed. I blubbed like a baby.

I am going to miss Gavin and Stacey. It's one of those great programmes where you really warm to the characters, you can empathise with them and I wish I knew them all. The last episode was cracking. I thoroughly enjoyed it and if I am going to nit-pick, my one complaint would be the lack of Pete and Dawn Sutcliffe (and in the last episode they said they were going?). I loves them. But all in all, a great last episode with a happy ending. I'm just clinging on to the hope of perhaps a 2010 Christmas special? Is that too much to wish for?

I thought I'd take this opportunity to share my favourite moments and lines from the show. There's so many to choose from, but these ones stand out. (This post is going to make me look a reet geek).

Moments that made me laugh & shed a tear (probably at the same time)

Smithy & Nessa at Gavin & Stacey's wedding - I still say "where to she now" on an almost daily basis.

Smithy & Gavin doing the World Cup Song - I (incredibly) know all the words to this song, still. Pam-laaaaa is such a cool mum. "Don't mind if I do" "Don't mind if I don't". Actually, that does bring a tear to my eye so should probably be in the section below.

Smithy & Gavin singing Band Aid
- Not much to say, I just freaking loved this. It's just the kind of thing you do.

Smithy & Rudy doing American Boy
- On the same theme above. Classic.

Satisfaction with every erection - What can I say? I am juvenile.

Ordering a takeaway
- Isn't this just what life is like? You order and every other bugger eats it.

Nessa in labour - funny but I was willing Smithy to get there in time and the bit where he comes in and kisses Nessa on the head breaks my heart every time.

Other highlights - Gavin & Stacey's engagement party where Pam calls Gwen a "leek munching sheep shagger", Bryn reading a letter from Stacey's dad to her in the wedding car, "anyone order a Chinese", Pete's mum who fell asleep behind the bar, Bryn and his amazement at everything new, Gwen and her omelettes, Doris and her toyboys and getting "twatted", Nessa and her conquests....Oh there are just too many bits to mention!

I'll miss the cast. I want to be Pam-laaaaaa. I want Mick to be my husband (or maybe my dad, I can't decide). I wish Pete and Dawn were my neighbours. I wish I had friends like Gavin, Stacey, Nessa, Smithy, Rudy, Fingers, Dirtbox, Chinese Alan.....I'd love to know people like Dave Coaches, Gwen and Bryn (Is that what Barry Island is really like?) and Doris, God love her and most importantly - Baby Neil - Oh my Christ - gimme that baby! What a cutie! Hell, I'll even miss Dick Powell.

So, there it is. Gavin & Stacey. Finito. Truth be told, at the end of the day, I won't lie to you, I just wish we'd found out what happened on the damn trip with Bryn and Jason!

love & kisses

PS If anyone knows what the Owain Huges thing as about, do enlighten me. Although I suspect nobody knows and that's why it's funny!

  1. Hubby works in Wales reguarly & none of them know what the Owain Hughes thing is either!

I laughed so much at the bit where Nessa takes the batteries out of the TV remote control cos she wants, "a bit of me time!" PMSL.

I bought hubby the DVD for xmas.

  2. I got all choked up when Nessa was setting off on her trailer and said to Gwen, how people had been asking if her mother was going to be at the wedding, and she says, "Yes. Her name's Gwen." Blub!!

  3. Oh I thought the same thing about no Pete and Dawn, I love them! I loved Pete's wedding ring - especially when Mick asked him if he got it from Sierra Leone! My favourite character is Pame-laaaaa as well, I think Alison Steadman is just crackin' (to quote) in that role. I loved this last episode, and although I was heartbroken for Dave Coaches I thought they gave him such dignity in defeat. Tidy x

  4. I was so sad for Dave Coaches too, he brought a tear to my eye. Sniff sniff.

  5. So, I have asked around, and apparently this is the Owain Hughes thing: the joke is in mishearing Owain Hughes for "I owe Ian Hughes" (say it fast in your best Welsh accent). So they reply, "And do you (owe Ian Hughes)"?
