As I stated already, it's one of my New Year's Resolutions to read more, so I thought I would document on my blog what I have read, and also leave a basic review - basic because I don't want to give anything away that might ruin the books for people who have yet to read them. I'm starting with the book I finished today.
Wow. I don't think I will read a better book this year than "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. Beautiful and touching, it's a relatively short book, simply written and a very easy read - with a powerful message.
It is such a though-provoking book; heart wrenching and comforting at the same time. I had to pause several times when something in the story caused me to think quite deeply about what had been said often went back to read part of it again.
The book tells the story of Eddie, a seemingly unremarkable fairground maintenance guy. The story starts on his 83rd birthday, which is the day that he dies. Eddie is met in heaven by five people from his past, some he knew well, some that seemed insignificant at the time but they each are there to help Eddie evaluate and understand his life better.
It certainly makes you think harder about things - the impact people have on your life and the impact that you can have on other people's loves, even without knowing about it. At times it made me question my own life and what I would do in certain situations. Everything happens for a reason and things that happen in our life, both good and bad, shape us into the person that we become.
Part of me would love to have the experience that Eddie has in the book, imagine it! I so hope there is an afterlife and if there is, I'm looking forward to meeting my five people!

I love this book , I recommend it to everyone I know . It really makes you think doesn't it .
ReplyDeleteThis book is brilliant!! I read his other book For One More Day...or something along those lines. They all have powerful messages within them and they really make you think. Was in tears by the end of TFPYMIH - absolutely brilliant though!! :o)
