How to take the stress out of running a family home

Everyone wants to be proud of their home, but sometimes it can feel like a thankless task getting it to the point of pride. Ticking everything off the to-do list is particularly stressful in a busy family home. Fortunately, there are ways you can relieve the stress from your shoulders.

Get everyone involved

A large part of the stress that might come from keeping your family home in its best shape is that so often all the responsibility is solely on your shoulders. If you change this you can immediately reduce a lot of the pressure. To help with this, consider getting the children involved with your day-to-day tasks. You might need to offer them a reward, either financially or with extra time on the computer, but that could well be worth it to help you relax some more. Set up a chore chart and rotate the household tasks and everyone can share the responsibility.

Keep some time for yourself

This is possibly the most important thing you can do when the weight of daily tasks gets too heavy. Instead of rushing to get everything done, set aside some time for relaxation. You can read a book, listen to music or soak away your troubles with Hydrovescent therapy. What could be more relaxing than soaking in the tub with warm jets of air whipping up bubbles around you? Choose your perfect setting and take your mind off all your troubles.

Don’t try to do too much

The fastest way to drive yourself up the wall is by trying to get everything that needs doing done in the same day. By all means set goals of what you want to be finished during the day, but try not to overwork yourself. This is especially important if you have more than one day in a week in order to do your chores, giving you the option of spreading them out through the week. If you do only have a day then prioritise your tasks and do the less important ones another time.

Use tips online

If you find your daily tasks are getting on top of you, take a look online for advice. Playing music while you clean and doing quick chores in between longer ones will help cheer you up and allow you to do things quicker.

  1. I agree it is very important to make time for yourself and not just run around after everyone.

  2. I also agree with Glenda. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming and demanding though! I once read an interesting article http://www.lovearena.org/parenting-for-mums-and-dads/ i think addresses some issues too!
