Coveting Cookbooks

I don't think it's any big secret that I'm a cookbook fanatic, I can't even remember how many I own anymore but lets just say it's in the hundreds. Despite having a collection that will soon need it's own room - this doesn't stop me coveting more books on a daily basis.

Over the past few months I haven't bought any new books at all (This is a trick, I have bought books but they've been secondhand and out of print, ha!) and not having purchased any new books means I am building up quite an Amazon Wishlist but books seem to be getting so expensive or am I just getting stingier?  There used to be a time when I got sent cookbooks to review but this doesn't happen so much anymore and also my tastes in cookbooks seem to be getting quite specific. It's my birthday in August so I shall no doubt procure a few of these then, if I haven't bought them already!

The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook - A book written by Cheryl and Griff from The Back in the Day Bakery in Savannah, Georgia to celebrate the bakery's 10th anniversary.

The Chinese Takeout Cookbook - written by a Diana Kuan, a Chinese food blogger, the book is a collection of popular Chinese takeout recipes.

The Lee Bros Charleston Kitchen - Matt Lee and Ted Lee are award-winning authors and this book is full of recipes from their hometown.

Martha's American Food - Martha needs no introduction, this book is a regional celebration of some of America's most treasured dishes.

The Hairy Biker's Great Curries - I love, love, love the Hairy Bikers and love curries so this is a no-brainer - it must be added to my collection.

Mexican Everyday - A Mexican cookbook designed to take into consideration the complexities of modern life and the time constraints we can face when cooking!

Polpo, A Venetian Cookbook of Sorts - Polpo is a restaurant in Soho, London serving up Venetian food.

River Cottage Veg Everyday - A veg-tastic book from the one and only Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

Thai Street Food - This has been on my wishlist forever. A big heavy book filled with beautiful photography and authentic recipes.

The Homesick Texan - Delicious Tex-Mex recipes written by a Texan blogger.

The Secret Lives of Baked Goods - A book about the histories of some of America's favourite desserts.

United States of Pie - Traditional and some unusual American pie recipes, coupled with tidbits of background to the pies.

I think that little lot would add up to some serious dollar so I'll just have to hope that people (and by people, I mean my husband) are kind to me when my birthday rolls around. Although, maybe, just to cheer myself up today I might buy one. Or two.

Are you coveting any cookbooks at the moment? Let me know. Mainly so I can covet them too!

  1. Well. Uh umm. I have quite a few on my wishlist too, Mrs M. Mainly those with a Middle Easten vibe, but a few southern European ones too. I'm currently coveting Claudia Roden's MIddle Eastern cookery books also her Food of Italy, Yotam Ottolenghi's Jerusalem and Plenty, The Illustrated Food and Cooking of Greece by Jan Cutler, The Silver Spoon by Phaidon (Italian), there are a lot more but I don't want to take up your comments page!

I have both the Hairy Biker's Curry and River Cottage Veg books and you really must buy both. RCV has the most sensational veg chilli recipe it's a real regular here and very well received by our family.
