A couple of months ago I was asked if I'd like to receive a Flavour box. If you're not sure what this is let me tell you...
Flavourly is an online monthly subscription website - you sign up to one of three subscription packages and each month a "Flavour box", a carefully selected box packed full of gourmet foods arrives straight to your door. You can choose to pay as you go (which is the most expensive route), take a 3 month package or for the most savings, take a 6 month package. They were with independent and niche producers throughout the the UK to bring you hard to find and interesting products that can be anything from sauces, chutneys, snacks, spices, desserts etc... Flavourly have also partnered with FareShare who are a national food bank charity which means that for every Flavour Box purchased they donate one meal to the charity.
- Cochrane Cottage Fat Free Lime Drizzle
- Trotters Hot Pepper Jelly
- Corn Again Chilli and Lime Popcorn
- Cambrook Sesame Peanuts
- Cambrook Almond with Blueberry
- The Bath Pig Original Chorizo
Now out of interest, I decided to add the value of the products up. Google is VERY handy for this, being able to give me the RRP of each of the items. These items added up to just under £16, so the £17 price of the box wasn't too far off the mark.
As promised, the items were all from independent producers and were what I would say were good quality products, the type you're most likely to find at farm shops than your local supermarket. I was impressed with the delivery, the packaging and presentation and the items themselves. However...there's always a however isn't there?
I do like the idea of the Flavour boxes and the element of surprise, but this is definitely something I would consider a super-deluxe luxury-luxury service for gourmets and foodies who like to try out new products. I wouldn't recommend it for amateurs or people who aren't really into cooking as the items aren't really everyday items and it's a pretty expensive way of buying snacks. For people who are on a tight grocery budget (many of us are these days) something like this wouldn't even be a consideration.
Sure, it's nice as a one-off but as a regular purchase? I couldn't see me doing it. I also didn't like that on top of your subscription charge (either £17 per month, £46 for 3 months or £89 for 6 months) there was also a delivery charge of £3 per box. That means if you've paid for a 6 month deal, that's going to take the price up to £107 which I think is a bit steep. I'd perhaps consider it as a novelty gift for a food-loving friend or treat myself if there was a good offer banging about as it is a really nice thing but I just don't think it's something that most families could afford to keep up month after month.
If you want to try out a Flavour box for yourself, in conjunction with Flavourly I am able to offer you £10 of your first box. Simply use the code FLAVOURLY10 when you checkout.

I DON'T advise ordering from Flavourly. Their customer service is abyssmal. I have had 2 problems with my subscription, and both times they failed to respond to on or offline contact. From comments on their facebook (mine was removed! so I can only assume there were more that didnt get through), other people have the same problem... n.b I did receive 1 box and the products I received were OK, but I'd rather have made my own selection (much cheaper, too) from a farmer's market or similar. I am still awaiting a response as to why I only received 1 box but hopefully I have blocked them from taking any more money from my bank... buyer beware..
