You saw my new years resolution post didn't you? If not I can give you a concise run-though...LOSE WEIGHT. GET FIT.
It sounds so simple doesn't it? So why is it so damn hard? I've never been fit, I'm lazy. There I said it. In my head, I'm a wannabe fitness-fanatic. In reality - I hate exercise with a passion. I've never really struggled with my weight either, until I children that is. Now when I put on weight I get this nice big squishy band of blubber around my middle. Attractive.
I've thought over and over that Something. Needs. To. Be. Done. In the past I've joined gyms (never went), tried DVDs (most still in their cellophane wrapper) and last year bought a cross-trainer (used once). I took up running last year but never got very far which is disappointing as I was actually quite excited about that, especially as it's free. The 30 Day Shred has been recommended to me so many times and I actually tried it last week - I know that people get great results from it so I really wanted to try it however my ongoing knee problems put paid to that, it's just too intense.
What to do.
Well this is what I am going to do to Get Fit and Feel Epic.
I started dieting again this week. This means I am in a BAD mood, so approach with caution. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track my calorie intake and any fitness activities I do and I have to say I love this App. In the past I've tried various things like WeightWatchers but all require a fair amount of cash. My Fitness Pal is totally free and it's all you need. I limit my calorie intake to 1200 kcal per day, and by listing all my food for the day I can make sure I don't go over this (it's even got a handy barcode scanner to input food details). At the tail end of 2012 I successfully used My Fitness Pal to lose 13lbs. I put a few back on over the Christmas period but am now well on my way to loosing the final 12lbs I want to shift. BAM!
The get fit part? Not so easy. It's so hard to just get myself out there doing something. My knee restricts me and makes me angry, plus I'm one of those people that wants to burn maximum calories off for the time I spend exercising. I used the Wii Fit the other night and an hour later? I'd managed to burn off 63 calories - that, my friends, is rubbish and is never going to motiviate me so it's back to the running. This time I am going to do it. Slight snag though, I'm a fair-weather runner - you ain't getting me out in this icy rain and wind for nothin' so the C25K needs to wait until at least March and in the meantime I am going to clear the clothes off that cross-trainer, give it a dusting and get on it!
After I've lost the blubber and got myself fitter? I'm going for ABS OF STEEL. Well okay, maybe not steel but certainly not the marshmallow they're currently made of.
Sounds like a plan doesn't it? All I've got to do now is put it into action...hold my hand?

I recently downloaded MyFitnessApp after seeing tweets from you and Kateab about it. It's BRILLIANT! I set myself a 1400cal goal because that's what I had in my Rosemary Conley days (after 2 weeks on 1200), but to be honest because I am running and training for the half marathon it regularly tells me off for not eating enough! It's so handy though - a really good way of seeing how little things swiftly add up. Best of luck - you can do it! x
ReplyDeleteI have been using the MyFitnessPal app alongside my zumba wii game and DVDs - Zumba u generally lose about 10calories a min which is ok. After 50 mins I lost about 486 odd calories - better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing is I get confused - if I do exercise and put it on the app how much cals I lost it tells me to eat more... so then I'm eating more than my 1200 cals no? Gave me a headache!
