Music Therapy

Last week I was tagged by Melksham Mum to join in with a Music Therapy meme. I've been a bit absorbed in NaNoWriMo and Just Dance 3 so I'm just getting round to it! I don't need much persuasion to join with with music memes and linkys because I love listening to music as you might well know from previous posts.

This one asks us to thing of three songs that we can listen to over and over again. Songs that move us and in Melksham Mum's own words - bring back shudder inducing memories.

We all know I have rubbish tastes in music so lets not get into that again *ahem*. Instead here are three tracks that always move me whenever I hear them. That's not to say I love them or they are anywhere near being a favourite of mine, just that they stir up feelings inside of me when I hear them and always make me stop and think.
The first one is "Forever" by the nineties boy band Damage (one member is now Emma Buntons fiance I believe...) I was about 17 when this song was released and head over heels in love with someone I would consider to be one of the great loves of my life. When this song came out I was probably only a few months into the relationship but it was intense because of our age (you always feel like you're the only ones in love at that age don't you?!) and other reasons I won't go into here. We considered this "our song" and although I rarely hear this song when I do it almost takes my breath away.

The second song I am going to put here is "All Time Love" by Will Young. Not a song I particularly love but the only song I remember hearing during labour with my firstborn. I was listening to Radio 1 whilst wildly sucking on gas and air after being induced and put on a drip. Mr M was sitting next to me and I remember asking who was singing. This song always takes me back and I can almost feel that burning sensation at the bottom of my spine again. Makes me think back to times when it was just Mr M and I.

My third and final song is a Coldplay song. I'm not a Coldplay fan by any stretch of the imagination. Chris Martin has a pouty sulky face I'd never tire of slapping but "Fix You" always brings a tear to my eye. Mainly because of this video which was made for a friends extremely brave daughter who I think about every time I hear this song but also the words are very touching. It says everything I feel for my family.

In fairness when I hear that Coldplay song I also think of Gavin & Stacey and Pete and Dawns wedding vows...

There you go. That's my music therapy in a nutshell. I hope you enjoyed reading about it!

If you'd like to join in, please feel free, either by writing your own blog post or just commenting below. Make sure you let me know if you write a post so I can have a good nose.

love & kisses

  1. Ha! I never liked that Coldplay song - I don't like Coldplay. But now I think of it so fondly because of Gavin and Stacey. Poor little Pete!

  2. I like this idea. Fabulous. I quite agree that the tunes that remind us of stuff aren't necessarily our favourites. I'd have to have a good think about this as I have a huge music library (mental and physical). I may just carry this over to my own place.
Nice memory with your second tune.

  3. I ordered this CD for my son who is 2 years old. We love the stars of the band - Skarky & Bones. The guys did a great job with the music. I love this CD, it is a kid's CD that I can listen to over and over again. If you are on the fence listen to track 10!!! The only thing that could be better is if Disney came out with a DVD of music video's for the songs. This is a great purchase for the price, totally worth it!
